How to manage time during the MDCAT 2026 exam?

Per-Subject Time Budget
Spend time in proportion to MCQ count. If you finish a subject early, bank the time — don't spend it on the same subject.
Save for review
15 min
Biology
Largest subject — lock in your high-confidence MCQs first
Chemistry
Organic reactions are recall — answer in <30 sec each
Physics
Skip long numericals on first pass — come back later
English
Aim for <1 min per MCQ. These are scoring questions
Logical Reasoning
Trust your first instinct — don't second-guess patterns
Topper-tested strategy
The 3-Pass MDCAT Strategy
Don't solve linearly. Do three passes — and walk out 10 minutes early.
Pass 1 · 0 – 130 min
Easy + Confident MCQs
Answer everything you know in <60 sec. Mark uncertain ones with a flag. Goal: 130–140 MCQs answered, 40–50 marked.
Pass 2 · 130 – 195 min
Marked / Harder MCQs
Now tackle the flagged ones. Use ~80 sec each. Skip anything that still feels impossible and move on.
Pass 3 · 195 – 210 min
Review + Guess Smartly
Recheck risky answers. Fill every blank — no negative marking, so a 25%-chance guess is free marks.
Do this on exam day
- Wear a wrist watch — your screen clock can lag
- Set a 90-min mental checkpoint: you should be ~halfway through MCQs
- Start with Biology — biggest subject, build momentum first
- Snap-decide in <60 sec or flag it. Indecision burns time
- Read all 4 options first — sometimes B is right because D is clearly wrong
- Drink water before the exam, not during
Avoid these traps
- Never spend more than 90 sec on a single MCQ on Pass 1
- Don't try to solve long Physics numericals first — too risky
- Don't keep checking the clock every 2 minutes — you'll panic
- Don't leave any answer blank — there's no negative marking
- Don't change a confident answer at the last second without strong reason
- Don't compare progress with the student next to you
Sitting NUMS 2026?
NUMS Time Strategy — Two Papers, Different Pace
Paper-I · 150 MCQs · 165 min
~66 sec / MCQ
Slightly less time per MCQ than PMDC. Skip long Physics derivations and come back later. Reserve last 10 min for review.
Paper-II · 50 MCQs · 15 min (Psychological)
~18 sec / MCQ
Trust your first instinct. There's no right answer in the academic sense — pick the most ethical / patient-centric option fast.
Practice this exact pacing in the app. Every mock test has a real on-screen timer and per-question time analytics — see where you actually lost time after every paper.

The MDCAT 2026 exam is on 16 August — no "I scored 192" stories yet. These are actual aspirants currently preparing with PrepMDCAT, in their own words.
The AI Tutor finally made Inheritance click for me. I asked it 'explain X-linked recessive in 4 lines' and got a clearer answer than 2 weeks of YouTube lectures. Mock scores up from 62% to 81%.

I'm sitting NUMS this year and no other app even has a Psychological Test bank. PrepMDCAT's 50-MCQ timed mocks at 15 minutes feel exactly like the real Paper-II. Lifesaver.

I use the AI Voice Tutor during the ride to my coaching centre — 30 minutes of revision every day without even opening a book. The Urdu voice option is so underrated.

Couldn't afford KIPS or Stars Academy. PrepMDCAT is literally free and has more MCQs than any paid app I tried. The Punjab/KPK syllabus filter means I only practise what's on my paper.

Physics was killing me. I typed 'Bernoulli' into Weak Drills, got 20 fresh AI MCQs with full explanations, and now I actually get the equation. From 50% to 78% on my Physics mocks in 3 weeks.

My daughter prepares from this app daily — she didn't ask for academy fees this year. The free tier is genuine, not a trick. If you build apps for students like this, you'll go far.
